WABetaInfo reported that the WhatsApp app is adding a new feature whereby you can completely hide your phone number in conversations, whether individual or group, which provides more privacy for users.
This came after a new add-on appeared in the beta version of the app that allows you to create a username, and this feature is expected to launch in a future update of the messaging app.
Currently, users are allowed to search for other people by their phone number in the messaging app, but in the future, the app will search for users by their “username” instead of their phone number.
And the new beta has shown that this feature will be available by going to the profile page in the settings menu and then entering the application profile, which will provide the option to set up a username.
Many messaging apps like Telegram or even meta apps like Messenger let you specify your account with a username.
It is important to note that WhatsApp has not yet confirmed that it will be adding usernames. If you introduce this feature, it is unknown if users will be able to hide their phone numbers and only display their usernames instead.
