Head of the Supreme Council of State: Presidential elections in Libya are not a solution

The head of the Supreme Council of State in Libya, Khaled Al-Mashri, announced on Saturday that “the presidential elections are not a solution in these circumstances.” He said that his hand is “outstretched to the House of Representatives for consensus.”

The President of the Supreme Council stated in statements to “Libya Al-Ahrar” channel that “the current possible solution is to elect a new House of Representatives as an alternative to the House of Representatives and the State.”

Al-Mashri expressed his readiness to debate his opinion “in front of all Libyans, and in front of the deputies as a president or members.”

In another Libyan matter, the Libyan Prime Minister, Abdel Hamid al-Dabaiba, demanded, on Saturday, an investigation into an escape incident. Hundreds of migrants were detained in an immigration detention center and 6 of them were killed, Friday.

The Libyan unity government announced that Dabaiba discussed with officials “what happened in one of the illegal immigration centers in Tripoli”, and stressed the need to announce the details of the incident.

For its part, the International Organization for Migration condemned in a statement, on Saturday, the killing of 6 people and the injury of at least 24 others in a detention center for migrants in the Libyan capital, Tripoli. the use of “excessive force” against migrants, and the resumption of flights to allow them to leave Libya. Death is a common occurrence in Libyan detention centers.”

The organization confirmed that there are approximately 10,000 men, women and children detained in poor conditions in official detention facilities in Tripoli.
