Good news for overseas Pakistanis: Islamabad has joined the Apostille Convention on legalization of public documents – Pakistan

Pakistan accepts steps become a member of Apostille Convention. In this connection and at the request of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, tool of accession to the Apostille Convention developed by the Hague Conference on Private International Law (HCCH) was endorsed by President Arif Alvi, head of Prime Minister Salman Sufi’s strategic reforms told Dawn.com on Thursday. Now all that is needed is the official approval of The Hague. for process to kick in.

Sufi says changes to the attestation process is likely to require effect in about six months and that the Ministry of Ministry of Foreign Affairs serves notaries throughout Pakistan for ensuring authentication, legalization and attestation of the documents with in relation to this mechanism.

Once Pakistan formally becomes a member of Apostille Convention, documents originating from a country that are certified in line with in requirements of this agreement will be accepted in 122 countries it is his current members.

It would be the same for documents outgoing in these 122 countries. Subject to proper certification by the country in accordance with the guidelines of the Apostille Convention. of origin, these documents will be accepted in Pakistan without further authentication requirements.

Existing process of certification and legalization are confusing, time-consuming, cumbersome and costly for most people and become an official member of The Apostille Convention will help millions of overseas Pakistanis.

Convention of October 5, 1961, “Abolition of the requirement of Legalization for Foreign Public Documents (HCCH Apostille Convention 1961) facilitates use of public documents abroad.

Target of Abolition Convention traditional requirement of legalization, replacing the often lengthy and costly legalization process with release of a single certificate with an apostille by the competent authority in in place where the document originated.

Electronic Apostille Program (e-APP) launched in from 2006 to support electronic issuance and verification of Apostille around world. Convention over 120 contracting parties, and became one of most widely used multilateral treaties in in area of legal cooperation, with several million Apostilles issued to each year.
