FM writes to OIC on alarming situation in IIOJK

ISLAMABAD: Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari sent a letter to the Secretary General of organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Hissein Brahim Taha informs him of the dire situation in Illegally Indian Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

In a foreign letter minister remembered that three years ago on August 5, 2019 India introduced illegal and unilateral measures in IIOJK.

Accompanied by cruel military Siege and draconian curbs on fundamental freedoms of in people of in the occupied territory, these measures were followed by additional illegal actions, including illegal demographic changes and grave atrocities in the form of conclusion of Kashmiri leadership; extrajudicial killings; enforced disappearances; arbitrary detentions; and conducted “cordon and search” operations.

He noted that India’s actions in gross violation of international law, including relevant regulations of UN Security Council and the 4th Geneva Convention, as well as OIC resolutions.

Foreign minister also recalled that the resolution entitled “Dispute over Jammu and Kashmir”, adopted by the 48th session of OIC Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs in Islamabad on On March 23, 2022, rejected “illegal and unilateral actions taken by India”. on August 5, 2019 and beyond steps change internationally recognized disputed status of Jammu and Kashmir occupied by India and change the demographic structure of occupied territory.”

it also demanded that “India cancel all illegal and unilateral measures taken by on or after August 5, 2019” and “adopt specific and meaningful steps for in full implementation of UNSC resolutions on Jammu and Kashmir”.

Highly appreciating the consistent and principled position of OIC in support of in just and legal struggle of Kashmiri people for their inalienable right to self-determination, foreign minister urged the OIC to continue to defend in solidarity with in people of IIOJK and lead diplomatic efforts for search for a long-term solution of Jammu and Kashmir dispute in conformity with relevant UNSC and OIC resolutions.

Foreign minister called on the Secretary-General to honor history of countless sacrifices and valiant efforts of Kashmiri people through further steps from the OIC platform to help meeting humanitarian needs of in people of IIOJK, and search access to the occupied territory for OIC fact- finding mission.
