Fire near Castaic closes down 5 Freeway among three-digit heat

Forest fire near Kastaik prompts mandatory evacuation and closure of all stripes of 5 highway on Wednesday afternoon: temperature three-digit hit Southern California.

Route fire was first informed just in the afternoon and burned along the freeway near Lake Hughes Road, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

By 16:00, fire grew to nearly 250 acres as authorities ordered evacuations for Paradise Ranch Estates mobile home park and buildings south of Templin Highway, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said.

“All residents have been ordered to evacuate to north,” department said in tweet.

Two firefighters taken to hospital with minor heat injury, the fire department said.

Temperature in in area reached almost 110 degrees by noon with Humidity 12%, according to the National Weather Service.

All stripes of freeway was closed with Southbound traffic is diverted to Vista del Lago Road while northbound traffic is diverted to Lake Hughes Road, according to the California Department. of Transport.

Flames can be seen on footage from KTLA-TV Channel 5 on both sides of alleys to the south with smoke rising from rolling, dry hills. The south and north lanes are separated by a large hill.
