Ex-Blizzard boss: 'I'm ashamed'

Commenting on California’s lawsuit against Activision Blizzard, ex-blizzard boss Mike Morhaime says he’s “ashamed.”
This week, the state sued Activision Blizzard for discrimination and sexual harassment, based on two years of research. Within the company, discrimination is alleged to take place in various ways, including promotions and salary, especially among women. They would also be sexually harassed in the workplace. In his statement Morhaine says he finds the stories “terrible” and “difficult to read.”

“Harassment and discrimination exist. It is common in our industry. It is the responsibility of leadership to make all employees feel safe, supported and equal regardless of gender or background. It is the leadership’s responsibility to eradicate toxicity and harassment of all forms, at all levels of the company.

To all the Blizzard women who have been through these things, I am very sorry to have failed you.”

Mike Morhaine founded Blizzard in 1991 , when the studio was still called Silicon & Synapse. He left the company in 2018.

Other developers at Activision and Blizzard also expressed themselves about the abuses. For example, World of Warcraft-senior game designer Jeremy Feasel announced that a large part of the development team did not work Friday out of solidarity. Narrative designer Steve Danuser adds that the World of Warcraft development team is “going through a mix of anger and pain.”
