Donald Trump Struggles to Explain His Own Policy Proposal
During a recent interview with Fox News, former President Donald Trump appeared to be confused about one of his own major policy proposals.
Trump’s Proposal for Drug Dealers
Last year, Trump stated that if he won the election and returned to the White House, he would seek the death penalty for drug dealers. This proposal received a lot of criticism from both sides of the political spectrum.
The Alice Johnson Pardon
In the Fox News interview with Bret Baier, Trump boasted about giving a presidential pardon to Alice Johnson. Johnson had been in prison for 21 years after being convicted for her involvement in a cocaine ring.
Baier’s Fact-Check
However, Baier stepped in with a fact-check. “But she’d be killed under your plan,” he interjected. “As a drug dealer,” Baier began.
Trump’s Struggle to Explain
“No, no, no,” Trump shot back. “Under my? Oh, under that? Uhhhh… it would depend on the severity.” He continued to struggle as he tried to reconcile the pardon with his proposal.
Criticism from Trump’s Critics
Trump’s critics slammed him over the exchange, with many pointing out his lack of understanding of his own policy proposal.
It remains unclear whether Trump will continue to push for the death penalty for drug dealers in the future.
