The New York Times reported that Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis raised $8.2 million in the first 24 hours of starting his 2024 presidential campaign.
The newspaper quoted the candidate’s campaign staff as saying technical problems DeSantis encountered in announcing the launch of his Twitter campaign did not dampen donor enthusiasm. According to his headquarters, a million dollars was raised in just one hour.
The newspaper added that the donations will immediately provide the DeSantis campaign with the money it needs to fund an “extreme schedule” of travel as the governor visits 12 cities in three states next week.
And it said that incumbent US President Joe Biden raised just $6.3 million in the first 24 hours of his 2019 campaign.
As for former U.S. President Donald Trump, whom DeSantis will face in the Republican primary, he raised about $9.5 million in a six-week campaign that began after the November 2022 midterm congressional elections.
