MP Claudia Webbe, who was found harass a woman because she was jealous of her relationship with her partner, began his attempt to undo her persuasion.
Webbe, 57, independent MP for Leicester East received a 10-week jail term suspended for two years at Westminster Magistrates’ Court in November after she was found guilty of bullying Michelle Merritt.
Webbe is attractive against her conviction and sentence, at the hearing in front of Judge Deborah Taylor and two magistrates of Southwark Crown Court.
Case opening on On Thursday, Susanna Stevens, the prosecutor, said reason for pursuit was Merritt’s friendship with Webbe’s boyfriend, Lester Thomas.
The court heard that campaign started with silent phone calls in September 2018, then “escalation” on March 31, Mother’s Day, next yearwhen Webbe asked why Merritt was in touch with her boyfriend.
“It seems to have been her obsession,” Stevens said. ” fact Miss Merritt should not to see or contact with Lester Thomas.
Merritt said that Webb started calling her names: “She called me a slut and a whore. [She said] “Stay away from Mr. Thomas” and “You’re a slag and you should be acid.
“She said she knew where I lived and [asked] why i posted pictures of my boobs and pussy to Lester. [She said] “I’m going to send them to your daughters.”
Merritt said she felt “terrible”, adding: “Of course I don’t want be damaged in Any way. I was very scared and shaking.”
She said she called the police and told them, “I was threatened public figure with acid.”
The court learned that Merritt received 17 more phone calls of 14 seconds or less from Webby after police warned the MP to stop contacting her.
In phone call recorded by Merritt on On April 25, 2020, Webbe was heard saying “I’ve seen everything of your nude photos.
In the recording, Webbe said, “Get out of my relationship, otherwise I’ll tell you everything family and show shopping center of your pictures.”
Stevens said, “It is this jealousy caused to threaten Miss Merritt and say very upsetting things to her.”
Webbe entered the House of Commons as a Labor MP in December 2019, taking over the seat previously held by Keith Vaz, Labor Party. veteran who left parliament in commemoration of scandal.
Labor had previously stated that party will push for revocation request force by-election if Webbe does not step down but you have to wait for the result of her appeal.
The appeal will continue next week.
