CONCLUSION: Joe Biden. full White House Correspondents Dinner

Thank you. Thank you thank you thank you. Thanks Steve for this is an introduction. And special thanks to 42% of you who actually applauded.

I’m very glad to be here tonight with the only one group of Americans with lower approval rating than me. This is hard say after what we just saw.

This is first since the President was present at this dinner in six years. This is clear. We had a terrible plague followed by two years of COVID-19.

Just imagine if my predecessor came to this dinner year. This would really be real revolution, if it were to take place. A little tough, right?

But I’m honored to be here on this event with so much history.

As already mentioned, most first The president who attended the White House Correspondents’ Dinner was Calvin Coolidge. in 1924. I had just was elected to the US Senate. And I remember… I remember saying to him, “Cal, just be yourself. Get up and speak from the heart. you’ll great, child. You will do it well.”

Of course Jill with me tonight. jilli, how you baby? I think… I think she’s doing an incredible job, first lady. first lady keep working full-time and she does like professor.

She doesn’t pay much attention to the polls, though she said the other day, “Instead of introduce myself as jill biden husband may i should pretend to be her roommate.

I have attended this dinner many times but this is mine first time as president. And the organizers had… had it hard — made it is beautiful hard for me tonight. Although good news if all goes well, I have real fired a replacement for James Corden.

It was great have it over at the White House the other day, just How is he announced he leaves show. BUT great performer is coming out on top after eight years in Job. Sounds just about the right to me.

And it’s hard follow pros like James and Billy Eichner. Billy, where are you? again? You – where is he?

Well Billy you’re famous for interview – your interview skills. Billy, you should know what are you doing mate. You know it’s you know this is good. And you should — I think you should host of “Meeting with the press”. Maybe they start watch it again.

I’ve never had to – never had to – never had to open up – I never will – I’ll never be invited to a “meet the press” again. Anyway.

I never had to open in front of Trevor Noah. Trevor great. When I was elected he did show and he called me “America new dad.” Let me tell you something, buddy: I’m flattered that anyone call to me “new”whatever. You’re my boyfriend.

And guys, it’s been a tough few years. for the country. This is one reason Why is this great to be here again.

Everyone in the White House is so excited. I told my grandchildren and Pete Buttigieg that they could stay. up late and watch this show this night.

Tonight — tonight we will come here and answer a very important question. on everyone thinks why in hell are we still doing this?

I know I have know have questions about whether we can should gather here tonight because of COVID-19. Well we’re here to show the country in which we are experiencing this pandemic. In addition, everyone had to prove they were fully vaccinated and vaccinated.

So if you are in home watch this and you are interested how do it, just contact your favorite Correspondent for Fox News. They’re all here, grafted and strengthened – all of them.

And, look, Fox… Fox News, I’m… I’m really sorry that your preferred candidate has lost last elections. To do this up you, I’m glad give my boss of Staff to all of you so he can tell Sean Hannity what to say every day.

AT factRon Klein is here at the CBS table that hired Mick Mulvaney. Mick, on CBS? I was stunned. I thought it would end up on “The Masked Singer” with Rudy.

amazing rental, guys. Really amazing.

Look I know it’s a tough city. I came to office with ambitious agenda and I expected it to face tough opposition in Senate. I just hoped it would be from the Republicans.

But I’m not worried about the midterms. I don’t worry about them. We can finish up with more guerrilla stalemate, but I’m sure we can work This is out during my remaining six years in presidency.

And guys, I’m not really here to roast the Republican Party. This is not my style. Besides, I can’t say anything about the Republican Party that Kevin McCarthy wouldn’t say. already put on ribbon.

And you know at the same time – at the same time a lot of people say the Republican Party is too radical, too controversial, too controlled one Human. They say, “That’s not your father, the Republican Party.”

Ronald Reagan said: “Mr. Gorbachev, tear this wall down.” Today’s Republicans say: “Tear down Mickey Mouse house.” And pretty soon they’ll storm Cinderella’s castle, you might be sure of This is.

But Republicans seem to support one the guy is some guy named Brandon. He really has good year and I’m kind of happy for his.

let me conclude with serious word.

We live in serious times. We are living through a devastating pandemic and we must remain vigilant. I know Kamala wanted to be here, for for example, and luckily she is doing well. You should all know she sends her best.

Were in the time when what we took so long to take for granted facing the most serious of threats. and I deadly Seriously.

warden- [sic] — overseasliberal world the order that laid down foundation for global peace, stability and prosperity since the Second World War have indeed been seriously undermined.

And at home poison runs through our democracy of all – all of it’s a taking place with disinformation massively on in rise where truth buried by lies and lies live on as truth.

What clear — and I mean it from below of my heart is that you free press matter more than you ever did in in last century. No, I’m serious.

I have always believed that good journalism keeps up a mirror for yourself to reflect on in good, bad and true. Today I want congratulations to the laureates and fellows who carry on this sacred tradition.

We’ve all seen courage of Ukrainian people as of courage of american reporters in this room and yours colleagues through world, who are on earth, depriving them of their lives in with your own hands.

And although it’s not in Ukraine, this is Russia – Mom, I would like meet you and dad to talk about your son.

We just — we just saw a heartbreaking video: nine people were killed, a report from Kyiv – a kamikaze drone strike on a shopping center attack; fired in neck while thinking [sic] — while — while documenting the flight of Ukrainians; killed when Russian missiles hit TV tower in residential quarter. One Radio Liberty journalist just killed a few days ago.

So much of you tell stories and take photos and video recording of what’s going on there, no embellishment truth showing — showing — destruction and devastation and, yes, war crimes.

Today we also honor the legacy of two historical reporters and they are Alice Dunnigan and Ethel Payne. I’m glad you saw it tonight. I don’t know you did it. These first Black women be White House reporters, who a shattered convention to embrace a segregated nation.

We honor journalists killed, missing, imprisoned, detained and tortured; covering the war, exposing corruption and holding leaders accountable.

We honor members of press, both national and local, covering the once-in-a-century a pandemic that caused us to lose a million Americans, if you count a generation on race and existential threat of changing of the climate.

The free press is not enemy of in people — by no means. In your best you are the guardians of in truth.

President Kennedy once said, and I quote, “Without debate, without criticism, no administration, no country can succeed, and no republic can survive.”

The First Amendment grants exclusive freedom to the press. protectionbut with comes as much of you know a very heavy obligation: to seek truth as best it is possible – not to kindle and entertain, but to illuminate and enlighten.

I know It’s hard. And I’m not careful. The industry is changing significantly.

There’s incredible pressure on deliver to you all heat instead of shed lightbecause technology changes so much, system is changing. But this is important. No kidding. It is important. truth has the meaning.

American democracy is reality show. is not reality show. This is reality myself. And reality what we great the country.

Our future is an bright. It’s not guaranteed because democracy is never guaranteed. Must be earned. He needs to be protected. It must be protected.

As you heard I said a lot times: There’s not a damn thing this country can’t do when we come together and do it together. And I know we can do whatever we want do it right.

I’ve been around for a long time as stated out many times this night. But I give you have my word as Biden: I have never been more more optimistic about America than I am today. I’m really serious.

AT times of huge changes, it opens up huge opportunities. For, despite all the crises, all the partisanship, all the shouting and showing off,

I am really know this and you know this too: we great nation because we are basically good people.

And here in America, good journalism, good satire on our leaders, on our society, is a typical American phenomenon. It demonstrates power of our example.

And I honestly believe that it reveals our soul – soul of our nation. And that’s what I would like to toast tonight if I can.

(The President makes a toast.)

Journalists and their families people and them elected representatives in the USA of America.

And along the way, Madeleine Albright was right: we are an irreplaceable nation.

Ladies and gentlemen, I’m about to turn this over Trevor now, strap yourself into your seat.

And, Trevor, indeed good news is: You can now fry the president of United States and, unlike in Moscow, you won’t go to jail.

Your podium.
