– National Assembly secretary ordered to submit a report on ‘illegal’ arrest

ISLAMABAD: government on Thursday notified the commission of inquiry arrest of former rights minister and Pakistan MP for Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) Shirin Mazari.

Mazari was arrested on May 21st in Islamabad over long-term accusation of land grab, her daughter said. She was detained by the police near her Islamabad. home, daughter Imaan Mazar-i-Khazir said in tweet.

Hours after arrest Punjab Chief Minister Hamza Shahbaz ordered her release.

Mazar was critical of Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) government in tweets since then government of former prime minister Imran Khan was overthrown. in a no-confidence vote in national assembly in April.

Notification of A three-person commission of inquiry set up by the Cabinet Office was also submitted to Islamabad High Court (IHC).

According to the notice, retired Judge Abdul Shakur Paracha will head commission, which included former Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police Chief Muhammad Naeem Khan and retired civil servant Saif Ullah Chatta.

Commission investigates abuses of authority to government officials leading to deprivation of the right to freedom, to establish reason for failure effectively investigate and apprehend criminals of in crime responsibility, conduct an impartial and fair investigation of Mazari. arrest and give recommendations on how to prevent such incidents in in future.

The commission will submit its report to the federal government within 30 days, the notice says.

Meanwhile, the court also led the National Assembly secretary submit a report on an incident which, according to Chief Justice Athar Minallah, “does not fit with the trial”.

The IHC considered the petition filed by Mazar-i-Hazir. During the trial, Judge Minallah named Mazari arrest as illegal.

He had also appointed a judicial inquiry against her arrest and asked the federal government frame it terms of link (TR).
