Chevrolet’s Decision to Change Blazer EV Trim Levels

Chevrolet has made the decision not to produce an entry-level 1LT trim for the new 2024 Blazer EV, resulting in a higher starting price for the electric midsize crossover. The starting price was originally targeted to be below $45,000.

The base model for the Blazer EV will now be the front-wheel-drive 2LT version, which is scheduled to arrive next year. Shipments of the Blazer EV to dealerships have already begun this week, featuring the all-wheel-drive RS trim that starts at $60,215 including shipping.

While the brand did not specify the new starting price for the Blazer EV, they previously mentioned that the fwd 2LT was expected to start around $47,595. Additionally, a 2LT with awd will be produced this fall with a price of $56,715 including shipping.

Chevrolet believes that higher trim levels on the upcoming Equinox EV will meet the needs of potential Blazer EV 1LT buyers, allowing for effective vehicle positioning and marketing without overlap.

Features and Pricing of the Blazer EV trim levels

The all-wheel-drive 2LT Blazer EV variant comes with a 17.7-inch infotainment screen, an 11-inch driver information screen, heated steering wheel, front seats, and side mirrors, wireless phone charging, AutoSense power liftgate, adaptive cruise control, and other driver-assist technologies.

The all-wheel-drive RS trim, which is now being shipped to dealerships, includes RS-specific grille and badging, gloss black trim, 21-inch wheels, a flat-bottom steering wheel, and additional features.

Both all-wheel-drive versions of the Blazer EV have an EPA-rated driving range of 279 miles. A rear-wheel-drive version of the Blazer EV RS will be available in the fall, offering a Bose audio system and an estimated driving range of 320 miles, priced at $61,790 with shipping.

Chevrolet plans to introduce a front-wheel-drive variant of the RS in 2024, but pricing for this trim has not yet been released. General Motors estimates a range of 293 miles for the front-wheel-drive 2LT trim.

Additional trim levels, such as the SS trim and a police vehicle, are also in the pipeline. The Blazer EV is launching with heavily equipped trim levels, and the front-wheel-drive 2LT version arriving next year will offer different content and a lower price point compared to the all-wheel-drive version.

Chevrolet’s Future Electric Vehicles

Chevrolet has plans to release two lower-priced electric vehicles: the compact Equinox EV, which will be produced alongside the Blazer EV, and a next-generation Bolt EV. The current Bolt EV and EUV will cease production at the end of this year, as GM is redesigning the Bolt to use their Ultium battery platform.

The Blazer EV is eligible for the full $7,500 purchase tax credit on new electric vehicles under the federal Inflation Reduction Act.

Editor’s note: An earlier version of this story misstated when shipments of the 2024 Blazer EV to dealers began.
