Despite the uncertainty of the economic situation, the demand for junior IT specialists in our country is continuous: after 3-6 months of intensive training, you can usually get a job as a junior within 2 months, and last year’s graduates already receive an average of HUF 561,000 gross per month , and an affordable income With a work experience of 3 to 6 years, the average gross is about 1.06 million forints.
Due to the current economic situation, domestic IT companies are also helping their employees with additional benefits, in addition, those working in the IT field can expect rapid promotions, and for most of them, the possibility of working abroad and home office are also options. – including those identified by the PROGmasters and IT programming school from a survey of the training center. 44.3 percent of the school’s total of 323 participants who worked as software developers, manual testers, or application operators, voluntarily participated in the study, i.e. 143 people.
High average income + additional benefits
It is common knowledge that the incomes available in IT are much higher than average, this was also confirmed by the PROGmasters survey.
For example, respondents who completed 3-6 month training courses last year are already earning an average of HUF 561,000 gross per month, but the current average monthly income of all those who have completed training since 2017 is HUF 806,000.
According to the survey, graduates with above average seniority and 3 to 6 years of work experience take home an average of HUF 1.06 million gross per month, while participants who are already retired (generally with 4 to 6 years of work experience) years), earn an average monthly gross salary of HUF 1.3 million.
When asked if they received an additional bonus, an early pay raise, or any one-time support from their company due to the current economic situation, an exceptionally large number of participants, 58.7%, answered in the affirmative.
Job promotions, overseas work opportunities and home office are also options
The study found that, in addition to income, professional development and advancement also motivate those seeking a career change. So far, 53.1% of all respondents have reached a middle or senior position, but this ratio among those who graduated at least four years ago is already 95.3% (69.8% of graduates at least four years ago are secondary and 25.6% – medium). the senior position is currently working).
Those who graduated in the last six years were also asked if they would have the opportunity to work remotely with their current knowledge and experience abroad or in a company operating abroad. 83.2 percent of respondents answered in the affirmative, while 97.2 percent of all respondents have the opportunity to work from their home office.
Almost anyone can find a job in two months
Two years ago, IVSZ predicted a shortage of 26,000 IT professionals in Hungary by 2023. Significant demand for industry professionals is also confirmed by a recent PROGmasters study: more than two-thirds (69.2%) of coding school graduates since 2017 received an IT job offer in the last three months. In addition, the demand for juniors did not decrease last year either, with PROGmasters placing 84.4 percent of respondents graduating in 2022 in IT for a maximum of 1 month, and another 9.4 percent for a maximum of 2 months, but also for the remaining 6.2 percent of participants found work within six months.
Founded in 2016, PROGmasters Programming School and IT Training Center offers intensive and practice-oriented training mainly for career changers aged 25 to 40 who already have work experience. Hundreds of people have taken PROGmasters courses in recent years, and the school has sent 96 percent of participants to its job-guaranteed courses as IT professionals at over 80 partner companies.
The professional life path of graduates is extremely diverse.
Participants in the study were also asked what industry they worked in before changing careers. The majority of people – 10.4 percent of those surveyed – switched from the hospitality and tourism industry to IT, but the same number pointed to the IT and telecommunications industry. Many (9.7 percent of participants) had a previous teaching, research, or research career, and 9 percent of graduates worked in finance, banking, or insurance. 7.6% of respondents gained professional experience in sales and commerce before enrolling in the course, and 6.3% of students came to the PROGmasters course from the media, communications and marketing industry. The professional life of graduates is extremely bright, another 46 percent of them worked in other areas of the economy before changing their profession.
Every third respondent had worked at least 10 years in the previous profession.
According to the study, 61.8 percent of participants have a university degree, and nearly three-quarters (74.3 percent) have passed an English or German exam at at least an intermediate level. The majority of graduates, 58.4%, moved with at least 6 years of work experience, but changers of professions who have worked in their previous profession for at least 10 years are not uncommon: they make up more than a third (35.5%) of all respondents.
Higher salary is not the most common reason for switching
The 143 respondents to the PROGmasters survey also shared why they chose to change careers. Most of them wanted to enter a profession that offers opportunities for continuous development and advancement, while the higher income available through IT professions was only the second most common answer. Of course, the latter is also an important aspect: according to the survey, the majority of those who graduated at least two years ago, 63 percent, are now earning at least 60 percent more than what they took home as newcomers after graduation. In addition to the two responses mentioned, many also indicated that they want to learn a profession that is in demand abroad or that could be done remotely.
90% of PROGmasters graduates are happy with their career change
Survey participants were also asked how successful they consider their career change overall. On a scale of one to ten, 60% of the PROGmasters-trained respondents gave the maximum score, and another 30% rated the career change as a high score of 8 and 9.
