On Thursday, the Qatar Football Association General Assembly elected Jassim Rashid Al Buynayn as the new president until 2027 to replace Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Thani, who has held the post since 2005.

The 18 members of the General Assembly (17 clubs + Qatar Stars League) voted electronically in a first-time experiment to elect a new five-member board (president and four members) after the bylaws were amended. associations and reduce the number of board members from seven to five.

Al Buynayn, who received 16 votes while one member opposed and another abstained, said: “I thank the members of the General Assembly for the great confidence they have placed in me and I hope to be with the new advice when they decide so, and we promise to keep working to serve Qatari football and elevate its status with new achievements in the coming years.”

He added: “We appreciate the great efforts made by Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Thani during his consecutive presidency of the federation, which included achieving many achievements, championships and international hostings, and we are all confident that Sheikh Hamad will continue to support and to support the federation through his membership in the FIFA Council, to present his great experience, which can be used at all levels.”

The General Assembly decided to confer on Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Thani the title of Honorary President of the Federation of Qatar in recognition of the great efforts he made during his presidency, which began in 2005 and was marked by many remarkable achievements.
