Aidin Kennedy: Funeral details released as friends remember ‘warm and kind’ journalist

The funeral of journalist Aidin Kennedy will pass on Tuesday, after her death weekend aged of 43.

On Friday, Eidin said on Twitter she was treated in hospital, but now he was going home receive palliative care, however she died in hospital on Saturday.

In her final social media postjournalist – who was possibly best known from her days on UTV – made a plea for her followers watch out for her children.

“Life has failed, and I’m just as sick as when in in hospital. [I’m] essentially going home to die but receiving palliative care. Children know. If you run into them you will follow out for them? They are the kindest, sweetest, most caring kids,” she said.

Journalist Claire Savage said she first met Eidin when they both took part in Washington’s program in Ireland 20 years ago.

“I will always remember her with such black hair, bright- eyed, alive young woman, and she impressed me so much that I told her that she should go for job at Belfast Citybeat where I worked with Stephen Nolan,” she told the Belfast Telegraph.

“I was leaving Citybeat at the time. She was already talented print journalist, but I thought she really had face for broadcasting. She was warm and kind and real people human.

“I knew that she would great TV presenter since she had this natural way with people. Aidin got a job at Citybeat and we grew up up in in media industry together.

“We met up regularly and followed each other’s careers, and everyone who knew Eidin knew her as a warm and kind woman.

“Unfortunately, she got a lot of bad blows in life. Unfortunately, when I moved to England, we lost contact a little, but I remember her very fondly, especially when we were together. in our 20 years together in America.

“She was gifted woman who loved the people as well people loved her. I hope for her parents maybe a little comfort in in fact she was loved by many people. it is a rarity in in media industry, but it really was.

After news of Eidin death there was an outpouring of grief.

In a statement, a spokesperson for UTV offered her condolences. family.

“UTV family deeply saddened to hear of passage of former colleague and friend of Aidin Kennedy. really gifted a reporter, she spent many years on UTV telling stories from around the world to viewers. over Northern Ireland,” the spokesman said.

DUP MLA Emma Little-Pangelly also met Eidin on Washington program in Ireland. She said she was “absolutely devastated” over in death of her “handsome, cheerful, kind friend”.

“I will miss her terribly. We met 22 years ago when we shared a room for summer in DC and became strong friends. Farewell, beautiful,” she said.

Eidin was one of four siblings, all of who are now dead young. She is survived two children Jacob and Eva, and her parents Noel and Maura.

Conversation with Belfast Telegraph back in 2019, Aydin spoke of how she lost her baby brother Gift from a brain tumor in 2015, and her older sister Fiona before cancer soon after.

“I grew up up in Belfast. It was me, mine parents – dad was an engineer, and mom was a teacher – my sister Fiona and my brother Dara. Both Fiona and Dara have passed away. in last years. Fiona was 44 and Dara was just 35. They were mine best friends, she said.

“I had another brother Rory, who was killed in traffic accident while he was one. We talked about him all the time. Seamus Heaney’s Intermission Reminds Me of Rory.

“The line” I saw him, for in first time in six weeks. Now paler wearing poppy bruise on his left the temple is always stuck with to me.

“My mom said that Rory looked like angel and you would know nothing but a bruise. I remember the teacher reading this poem. out. It’s right away made I think of his.

“My mum Maura and dad Noel are the strongest and most beautiful people I know. Since my mom was a teacher and my dad is from Argentina, nature of our family always put the kids first.

“Were very people- oriented as family. we were very close family and we’ve done a lot together.”

She is also paid tribute her parents in the same interview.

“They’ve been through so much, losing three of their children but they refuse to let life catch up with them,” she said.

“They are funny, loving, supportive and enjoy everything life has to offer. They are the championship bridge players. Though I don’t approve en masse of them playing bridge around world because my nerves are on edge when they wander, I admire their attitude to life.
