An opposition Turkish lawmaker affirmed that no less than 43,000 violations of the right to life were committed during the AKP’s term from 2002 until 2020.
In the statement of the opposition Republican People’s Party deputy Sezgin Tanrikulu, the 18-year period of ruling the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) saw 1,062 extrajudicial killings and 261 unidentified murders, in addition to 305 deaths from landmines, 850 deaths in attacks by illegal organizations, and 120 deaths during Civil disputes, 781 deaths on immigration routes, 86 deaths in custody, and 30 deaths as a result of a hunger strike.
The report also revealed the violation of the right to life of 2,380 people in prisons, and the killing of 6,732 women in Femicide, 112 in hate murders, 26,407 people in professional murders, 373 in the death of suspected soldiers, 274 people during the coup attempt on July 15, 2016, and 11 people in accidents caused by police vehicles.
321 civilians killed during curfew
According to the report, from 16 August 2015 to 1 January 2020, 381 curfews were imposed In 11 states and at least 51 districts during the curfew period in the Kurdish-majority provinces in Turkey, 321 civilians lost their lives between August 16, 2015 and August 16, 2016.
Violating the rights of 3396 children
The report referred to the violation of children’s rights from 2011 to 2020, the right to life was violated for at least 3396 children throughout Turkey.
