The Spanish company Puig, which controls his fashion and fragrance businesses, announced his demise.

“The House of Paco Rabanne would like to pay tribute to its creator and visionary designer, who died today at 88. He was one of the 20th century’s most influential individuals in fashion, and his legacy will continue to serve as a source of inspiration, “a statement from Paco Rabanne’s official account stated.

The post ended with a picture of the late designer: “We are grateful to Monsieur Rabanne for establishing our avant-garde history and outlining a future of boundless possibilities.”

Additionally, through Page Six, Jose Manuel Albesa, the head of Puig’s beauty and fashion division, released a statement “Deviance became fashionable thanks to Paco Rabanne. Who else could make chic Parisian women yearn for outfits composed of metal and plastic.”

Rabanne was well-known for his Space Age aesthetic, which Audrey Hepburn and Jane Fonda both admired.

The statement from Albesa ended, “That radical, rebellious character marked him apart: There is only one Rabanne.”

Francisco Rabaneda Cuervo, better known by his stage name Rabanne, began his career designing jewelry for prestigious fashion brands like Dior, Balenciaga, and Givenchy before establishing his brand in 1966.

He retired in 1999, and Manish Arora established the company without him in 2011 before Julien Dossena took over a few years later.
